History of Community Mediation Services (CMS)
Community Mediation Services of Central Ohio was established in 1989 as a result of the leadership of the Columbus Bar Association. The agency's mission is to prevent the harmful physical, emotional and economic effects of unresolved disputes on individuals, families, neighborhoods and organizations by providing, promoting and teaching non-adversarial conflict management strategies that empower disputants to create lasting, "win/win" resolutions to their concerns.
As a private/non-profit corporation the agency is directed by an independent board of trustees. The board is made up of leaders from the organized bar, local school systems, business community, judiciary, human services and law enforcement. A professional staff and pool of approximately 20 highly skilled volunteer mediators are maintained to provide services.
CMS provides services on a non-discriminatory basis to all parties regardless of age, race, creed, color, national origin, sexual orientation, disability or gender.
Mediation services at CMS are provided at no charge or on a sliding fee scale to disputants in Franklin County, thanks to the support of our current funders, which include:
